GOD PEOPLE, IM SURE HE KNOWS THIS DEVIATION IS STOLEN BY NOW. WE DON'T NEED ALL OF DEVIANTART TO TELL HIM THAT HE BROKE THE RULES, IT'S NOT EVEN THAT BIG OF A DEAL. IF IT REALLY BOTHERS YOU, JUST REPORT IT OR SOMETHING INSTEAD OF LEAVING A RUDE COMMENT, ISN'T IT EASIER?! JUST TRY AND ENJOY THE STOLEN ART OR SOMETHING

It's ridiculous how sharing art has become a restriction and frowned upon. Regardless of who originally drew this, art shouldn't be prohibited to share to the art community. Sharing art is what helps people learn from others. I'm pretty sure if this wasn't posted here, there would be a chance I would never see it and learn something from it.

It's not like the user wrote, "By: Me, Idea: Me, Owner: Me....etc". Beside the fact, even if the original owner would had put a watermark or copyright statement on the work, an amateur photoshop user could easily clone the palette and then modify PFP properties of the photo, so the photo can be without watermark, and be untraceable through any reverse-search photo methods.

such a wrong attitude. dont want to use any insulting word.

not like like the guy who post it wrote "owner:me"? MAYBE cause point of deviantART is that everyone has their own acc and to post their own work, so there is no need for that  therefore, this was wrong. I dont care if you wouldnt see it, if this guy didnt repost it. i really dont. and trust me noone does. especially not the real owner of the art.

this guy didnt even give a credit to orginal owner. ye i know, you just said ANOTHER wrong attitude "maybe he couldnt find the root of orginal artist" then dont freaking post it, again. who the heck are you to post someone else's art and act (YES HE DOES ACT LIKE IT'S HIS. END OF STORY.) ? he didint even wrote "I found this on random site, dont know the owner".

And I see you said you talk in generaly not about dA. well then, open a new topic, and dont writte it here, on dA comment section of one art.

This is a page to share your own art, not other peoples work. That can be done with Tumblr and other pages. Deviantart is not for showing what cool thing you found on the internet, it is for sharing your own work, as an artist.

You're only writing about the rules that were established here, I wasn't talking specifically about DA, but rather the community as a whole.

I was looking forward for opinions, rather than a rereading of the rules.

I'm writing about the rules of this site because it was this site the problem occurred on.
But I am against spreading art without credit in general.

Regardless if the image was randomly googled, and couldn't root out the original artist? Which we don't know if he did or not.

Depends on the context, but if you cannot localise the original, maybe say say that in the description. Usually it's simply laziness though.

...Although he didn't manually put that copyright, it was already there.

Excuse me but, the dA rules specifically state that: If you didn't draw it or get permission then it is indeed STOLEN. Deviantart is a place to show your OWN skills not someone else's.

Regardless if there's a watermark or not. It doesn't matter that the person that posted it didn't put that they made it. A while back someone stole a picture from me without permission (i hadn't used water marks back then.) And they too didn't put any description saying it was theirs. It STILL classifies as stealing no matter what.

If you wanna post art and photos that aren't yours and not get in trouble for it, go to Photobucket.

It's not a matter of what DA believes is right, nor what is socially acceptable which both may be wrong. Years ago, an artist drew a mustache and what not on the Monalisa and made money out of it, people criticized it as being wrong. Now these days, it's completely normal and a genre in art.

So in that logic, it is only right when society believes right, which may or may not take years for the belief to change. It is wrong and prohibited in some places to go nude on the public, it is in the rules and society believes is wrong as well, but logically it is just human nature and it's not wrong. So if DA states those rules, those are only the opinions that are today, and isn't based on rationality.

Self-Importance and feeding our own narcissistic needs, is what we may be robbed from. If the issue was him selling the piece, then I'll agree with you.

While art should indeed be shared.. DeviantArt is a place to SHOW you are. How is the artist suppose to get recognition if you don't even credit who made it? how will he make money?.. Art is also a way of making a living for some, and by you diverting attention to your profile, you are taking away from theirs.

To sum up your comment, your basically saying and stereotyping the whole art community as narcissist that are only into art for self-importance and monetary gain.

While I agree it is wrong to claim an art piece as your own, and make money out of it, I disagree with the method of doing it in the internet where you can expect people to steal it.

??? it's wrong to steal art and make money out of it, but it's perfectly ok if you do it online? I'm not sure what you are saying?

It is wrong to steal art and make money out of it, but if the user has no intention on any gain, and he probably just found the image by doing a random google search and couldn't find the original artist(Which who knows if he may have) and he decided to share it without credit, sure it's against the artificial rules that are established in this site, but it's not that big of a deal enough for people to come here and flame the user.

Maybe you should have actually read the rules when you joined this site: Submission Rules: about.deviantart.com/policy/su… Copyright Rules: about.deviantart.com/policy/co…

It does not matter if he didn't claim this work as his own. This is not YOUR site or HIS site. When you joined the site you agreed to the rules of the site. There are plenty of other sites that allow you to upload anything you want. If you don't want to respect the site rules, get out. Or go make your own site?

So in other words, Copyright and Ethics only apply when is convenient to you....or rather when you feel the need to take the issue personal and into your own hands.

If your just going to respond with the opinion of a site and brown-nose their rules, instead of thinking for yourself and responding with your own opinion, then don't bother responding at all. The comment is just as worthless as the author.

At start, I never intended it to be directed specifically at DA in general, but rather the whole community of artists on the internet sharing their work on various sites.

I was looking forward to opinions, rather than users blatantly posting the rules of DA. Perhaps or more likely, it was my poor rewording; I am always terribly ill when it comes to writing. Besides, it's not like my opinion that is 1 out of who knows how many, is going to change everything.

It was my terrible attempt at being an optimist, turns out I am better going the opposing direction.

Posting it as a deviation isn't the was to share it though. Deviations are meant for art the artist created themselves. If he really wanted to share it on DA there are other ways such as through journals and the forums. There's also the plenty of other sharing sites people mentioned.

It's perfectly okay to have an opinion, and to disagree with the rules. However, when you join a site, you should at least be respectful of the rules and not break/encourage breaking them. If you have an issue with them, you could try bringing it up with an admin. This community is free and they offer a lot to you.

There are plenty of sites that allow you to share any art you please:
Facebook
Twitter
Photobucket
TinyPic
and many forum based sites.

I'm sorry that I acted hostile towards you, my wording was a bit harsh, but I stand by my initial opinion. Always remember: you don't have to be apart of this site. If you agreed to the TOS when you joined, it is your responsibility.
Perhaps you could make a topic about making a separate part of DeviantArt for sharing artworks that don't belong to you, in the attempt to appreciate them.
